Short, focused practice sessions where managers work through the hard conversation with a character who pushes back, then get honest feedback on how they handled it.
Ten minutes, one conversation, a debrief that tells the truth. Built to sit alongside the longer programs your managers are already in.
Why this exists
Most manager development stops at understanding. The skill only shows up under pressure, in the room, with someone on the other side of the table who will remember how it felt.
of the difference in engagement between teams comes down to the manager — not the industry, not the pay, not the perks.
Gallup, State of the American Manager
of managers worldwide say they have ever received formal training for the job. The rest learn on live people.
Gallup, State of the Global Workplace
people say they have left a job at some point to get away from their manager.
Gallup workplace research
Every profession that got serious about performance built somewhere to fail first — the flight simulator, the clinical sim lab. Both exist for the same reason: failure has to be cheap, early, and survivable, and the debrief has to be honest.
Management is one of the last high-pressure roles still skipping that step. We send people straight to the live conversation and call the damage experience.
The Practice Lab is the rehearsal space. The feedback is built in.
How it works
Eight authored scenarios across feedback, accountability, conflict, coaching, change and retention. Each one opens with the sentence a real person would actually say.
Reply in your own words. The character has a position, a mood, and something they will not volunteer unless you make it safe to. Push too hard and they close up, the way a person would.
Every session ends with a score across four skills, tied to specific moments in the conversation. Then rehearse it again and do it better. That repetition is where the change happens.
Making it safe to say the true thing
Naming the issue so it cannot be misread
Hearing what is under the first answer
Leaving with a commitment and a date
Model the behavior, practice it, get feedback, repeat. It is the oldest format in training research and it still holds: knowledge fades, but practiced skill and on-the-job behavior are the parts that last.
The offer
The Practice Lab is where managers rehearse. The programs are where capability gets built. Start with the practice, and we will tell you honestly whether you need the rest.
